Dry siliceous grassland habitats are found in the Atlantic and sub-Atlantic climatic zone on acid, nutrient-poor soils, on siliceous soils in Central Europe, and on the poor flinty soils of the Mediterranean area. This is an important butterfly habitat, but sadly large areas have disappeared because of the intensified agricultural usage ( C-35).
