Habitat

Fallow land and waste places

Fallow land and waste places have the same sort of vegetation as abandoned arable land and open disturbed places, all being colonized by pioneer or ruderal species. Such places are very suitable for butterfly species that prefer open vegetation. Fallow land may be very rich in butterflies, even rare ones, but this is mostly temporary. It may be taken into cultivation again, or taken over for building purposes. If abandoned, it reverts to scrub or forest ( C-87).
