Habitat

Improved grasslands

Improved grasslands are grasslands that have been heavily fertilized, or meadows that are frequently mown, resown, and usually also treated with chemicals. There are no larval foodplants or sources of nectar and the fauna is very impoverished. It follows, of course, that no butterfly species is able to complete its life cycle in such surroundings and very few butterflies will be found in this sort of habitat ( C-81).
