Sclerophyllous scrub, such as maquis and garrigue is found in the Mediterranean and sub-Mediterranean regions. The scrub is evergreen and when it is dense, there are few butterflies to be seen. However, in more open vegetation and in the area of transition to open vegetation types, such as grassland, butterflies abound ( C-32).
