Zerynthia cretica

Description:
This festoon is often seen in dry, open scrub, but also on agricultural land, in olive groves and vineyards, and sometimes in damp places. The birthwort Aristolochia cretica, which only grows on Crete, and perhaps also A. sempervirens, are used as food plant by the caterpillars.
It is single-brooded and hibernates as a chrysalis.
