Erebia claudina

(Borkhausen, 1789)

White Speck Ringlet

Description:
The White Speck Ringlet owes its name to the row of small white spots on the underside of the hindwings of both the males and females. This Erebia is mostly found near the tree-line on flower-rich grasslands with scattered trees, or along sunny edges of woods.
Food plants are various grasses, especially Tufted Hair-grass (Deschampsia cespitosa).
The egg probably takes two years to develop into a butterfly.
