Habitat

Humid grasslands

Humid grasslands and tall herb communities.

These damp, flower-rich grasslands, are usually meadows that have hardly or not been fertilized. The humidity they provide combined with the shelter of dry shrubs and trees, is a valuable combination of conditions for butterflies. They are often found on slopes, which adds to the humidity by seepage. Furthermore, the flowers are rich in nectar and attract butterflies from the surrounding areas ( C-37).
