Leptidea duponcheli

(Staudinger, 1871)

Eastern Wood White

Description:
The Eastern Wood White occurs on dry grassland, often where scattered trees or bushes are growing, and also in open woods. It is found on both calcareous and non-calcareous soils. The habitats of the Eastern Wood White are drier and warmer than those of the Wood White (L. sinapis complex).
The eggs are laid on the leaves of Meadow Vetchling (Lathyrus pratensis), Yellow Vetchling (L. aphaca) and birdsfoot-trefoils (Lotus spp.), mostly on plants growing in the shade. The caterpillars feed on the leaves of the food plant.
The Eastern Wood White is double-brooded and hibernates in the pupal stage.
